French Supreme Court orders the immediate release of one of Zimeray & Finelle’s clients

By decision dated 19 August 2020, the French Supreme Court has ordered the immediate and unconditional release of our client illegally detained in France upon extradition request from the Russian authorities. After several attempts filed in vain, we succeeded in getting a clear-cut sentence quashing a Court of Appeal judgement. The Supreme Court decision is a welcome reminder that all laws – including those enacted in a state of health emergency (such as during Covid-19), hence restricting the rights of the defence – are to be interpreted strictly.
